    The Regent of Greece, General George Zoetakis, yesterday attended a special service at Athen's Makriyianni Barracks in memory of the pro-monarchists who died in the 1944 civil war. The battle at the barracks on December 3, 1944 was considered the turning point in the civil war. The pro-monarchist forces held off repeated attacks by communist forces. Relatives of those who died in the fighting attended yesterday's service with members of the Government, members of the Orthodox Hierarchy and military representatives.

    SYNOPSIS: At the Makriyianni Barracks in Athens members of the Government, the church and the military have attended a special service in memory of the promonarchist troops who were killed during fighting there in the 1944 civil war.

    The Greek Regent, General George Zoetakis, was the principal guest at the service and ceremony.

    The battle at the Barracks on December 3, 1944 prevented the left wing resistance group ELAS from taking control of Athens. Hundreds of pro-Monarchists died in the fighting and many of their relatives were at the memorial services. British troops under General Scobie, landed in Greece in 1944 to support the pro-monarchist side.
