TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 6: MRS. PATTERSON: "We shall go on knocking on the Government's door for more measure to keep people at work. But if in the coming year all who are in a job and I mean all -- not just some of them or most of them -- accept a standard flat rate increase in their pay packets then the increase in prices and unemployment will be checked before they reach the level of disaster. An equal increase in pay for everybody is rough justice but is not as rough as unemployment or as unjust as making the poorest of the poor even poorer."

Background: Delegates at this week's 107th Trades Union Congress being held in Blackpool, England are expected to give their support to Prime Minister Wilson's six pound (12.6 dollars) a week increase limit.

The delegates, who represent about ten million trade unionists in this country, are expected to adopt the plan three to one.

The limit was originally proposed to Mr. Wilson by the T.U.C. General Council and one of the foremost supporters of the scheme has been Mr. Jack Jones, General Secretary of the powerful Transport and General Workers' Union.

Another supporter was the Congress' President, Mrs. Marie Patterson who spoke strongly in favour of Mr. Wilson's plan in her presidential opening speech on Monday (1 September).
