    The Second European Schools Basketball Championships opened in Athens, Greece on Thursday (March 30) with a parade of competitors around the stadium and inaugural matches between West Germany and Finland -- shown in this film -- and Italy and Israel. Finland won 39-31, while Israel beat Italy 70-51.

    Nineteen European national school teams were competing in the games.

    SYNOPSIS: The Second European School Basketball Championships opened in Athens, Greece, on Thursday with a parade of teams round the stadium. Nineteen national teams of schoolchildren were taking part in the games, and several thousand people attended the opening ceremony and inaugural matches--West Germany versus Finland, and Israel against Italy.

    West Germany and Finland proved to be evenly matched teams, but the Finnish schoolchildren--playing in the coloured dress--managed to win 39 to 31 in a fast, exciting game. In the other match of the day, Israel beat Italy 70-51.
