    After touring the heartland of Congo-Kinshasa's industrial and mineral wealth, King Baudouin's ten day visit to the country took a colourful and traditional turn on Monday (June 22), when dancers of the Bashi tribe welcomed the Royal party's arrival at Bukavu airport.

    The king of the Belgians had flown from Lubumbashi to the beautiful town of Bukavu on the banks of Lake Kivu. The King and President Mobutu, who is accompanying his royal guest throughout the tour, received a rousing welcome. The two men enjoy a personal friendship dating from King Baudouin's invitation to the President to make a personal visit to Brussels in 1968.

    Following the arrival at Bukavu, the royal tour was scheduled to become less exhausting for King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola. After spending the first two days of their visit touring the country's vital diamond and copper industries, they wee scheduled to see some of the Congo's natural wonders, including a visit to the Albert National Park and a three-day cruise down the River Congo to Kinshasa.
