    About 80,000 students and young people gathered in Paris on Saturday (4 October) to stage a protest against the lack of employment opportunities for the young.

    The demonstrators marched Loudly, but peacefully through the streets of Paris, carrying banners and chanting slogans that demanded more jobs for youth.

    Unemployment in France is expected to pass the one million mark by the end of this year and latest official figures show that 325,000 people under the age of 25 are out of work.

    Some of the main points the demonstrators want are : the advancement of the retirement age; the creation of more employment in the public service and an increase in the buying power of the average French working class family.

    The demonstration was called by the two main unions of France, the CGT and the CFDT. Its theme was the "right to work ... the right to learn a job"
    It had the support of several youth organisations .. the young Communist Party; the Socialist Youths; the United Socialists; the Young Catholics and several student bodies.

    SYNOPSIS: Almost eighty thousand young people gathered in the Place de la Republique in Paris on Saturday to demonstrate for more employment opportunities for youth. The demonstration was called and organised by the two main French unions the CGT and the CFDT. It was supported by several youth organisations, including those of the Communist and socialist Parties, the Catholic Church and several student bodies. The demonstrators marched, loudly but peacefully, through the streets.

    The demonstration's theme was the "right to work -- the right to learn a job". Unemployment in France is expected to top the million mark by the end of the year. About three-hundred-and-twenty-five-thousand people under twenty five are out of a job. Some of the main points the demonstrators want are the advancement of the retirement are; the creation of more jobs within the public service and an increasing in buying power of the average French working class family.

    The young people are particularly worried because unemployment in their ranks is not only affecting unskilled workers but qualified professionals and technicians
