  • Description

The first four of 16 British-built Sea Trucks donated by the British Government to Bangladesh for relief through UNROD arrived by air from London in Dacca today (1/6/72). At the airport to see them arrive was a crowd of interested onlookers and Britain's High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Mr. Anthony Golds. The Sea Trucks (details of which are in the enclosed brochure) will be used both for lightening from cargo ships bringing relief food supplies to the Bay of Bengal and for transporting these supplies up the Ganges delta to places that are normally inaccessible by water cargo traffic and were served by land transport before the hostilities of 1971, when 276 road bridges were destroyed. Britain has donated GBP3.3 million in grants to the relief of Bangladesh through the United Nations and GBP4.8 million as a soft-term lean for capital goods and commodities.
