  • Description

In West Germany, about eighty students went on hunger strike at Frankfurt airport on Tuesday (27 February) in a bid to get back to their home country, Iran. Most of the students had no tickets, and said they weren't getting their government grants since the return of the Ayatollah Khomeiny.

SYNOPSIS: The students picked on the airport terminal at Frankfurt to start their protest, hoping to force Iran Air to fly them back to Teheran. They claimed they were being kept out of Iran by the new government because they are regarded as left-wingers.

In Iran, left-wing groups have been demonstrating over their demands to have a share in the running of the country. The left-wing believes the revolutions hasn't gone far enough against what they call "imperialists".

The new Iranian government's list of citizens allowed to leave the country includes students with valid visas and acceptances from universities abroad; students in the country at the time of the revolution; and people needing vital medical treatment.

Meanwhile, in Frankfurt, the students say they have been forced to take their measures just to get back to their homeland.
