The Ghanaian soccer club side hearts of Oak disappointed a large home crowd when they were beaten 2-1 by the Tanzanian team, Simba. The game was the first of a two match series between the two teams in the Africa Clubs' championship.
Despite a vocally opposed crowd, the Simba players stayed tight in defence and their forwards proved more than a match for Hearts. by contrast the home side failed to mark their men and showed little fight after the Simba first goal which many thought was offside. The referee didn't rule it as such and while the heart's players waited for a whistle, Kibodeni kicked the ball into the net to make the score one nil in the visitors' favour.
Hearts equalised twenty minutes later.
At half time the home side changed from their traditional technicolour shirts into an all white uniform. they played better, but were still not strong enough to stop Simba scoring the deciding goal just before the end of the game. hearts had their chance to at least draw the match through a penalty, but it was missed.
The return match to decide who goes through to the next round of the championship will be played in tanzania in two weeks.
