    Egyptian President, Anwar al-Sadat, has accused Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi of stirring up student unrest in Egypt. President Sadat made the accusation during a two-hour speech broadcast nation-wide from Alexandria University on Monday (26 July).

    SYNOPSIS: The Egyptian leader was visiting the university to attend an official dinner. It was Alexandria that was the scene of student riots three years ago. But there was a friendly relaxed atmosphere there as the President and his wife Jehan arrived for Monday's function. They were introduced to university staff and members of the student body who had organised the dinner in their honour.

    The dinner was also attended by other Egyptian leaders including Deputy Premier and War Minister, General Mohammed Abdul el-Gamassy and Foreign Minister ismail Fahmy and their wives.

    President Sadat's after dinner attack on Colonel Gaddafi was seen as being the latest incident marking the rapidly deteriorating relations between the two former allies. In a similar speech last week Mr. Sadat referred to the Libyan leader as "Libya's madman" and on Monday night he reiterated this remark.
