    THE CONGO REPUBLIC (BRAZZAVILLE) HAS HONOURED THE PRESIDENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE, MR. AVERY BRUNDAGE, FOR HIS SERVICES TO WORLD SPORT.

    AT A CEREMONY AT THE CONGO REPUBLIC EMBASSY IN PARIS YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) THE AMBASSADOR, MR. NICOLAS MONDJO, DECORATED MR. BRUNDAGE WITH THE RANK COMMANDER OF THE CONGOLESE ORDER OF MERIT.

    MR. BRUNDAGE WAS GIVEN HIS HONOUR AT THE END OF A NEWS CONFERENCE GIVEN BY THE GENERAL SECRETARY OF THE AFRICAN SPORTS COUNCIL, MR. JEAN CLAUDE GANGA. IT WAS CALLED BY MR. GANGA TO PUT THE POINT OF VIEW OF AFRICAN NATIONS ABOUT HOLDING THE NEXT OLYMPIC GAMES IN MEXICO CITY. OBJECTIONS AND OTHER POINTS OF VIEW REGARDING MEXICO AS A VENUE ARE TO BE CONSIDERED BY THE OLYMPIC COMMITTEE AT A MEETING IN TEHERAN TOMORROW (SATURDAY).

    AT THE SAME CEREMONY THE DIRECTOR OF THE FRENCH NATIONAL SPORTS INSTITUTE, COLONEL CRESPIN, RECEIVED THE HONOUR OF OFFICER OF THE CONGOLESE ORDER OF MERIT FOR HIS SERVICES TO SPORT IN FRANCE.

    MR. BRUNDAGE HAS BEEN PRESIDENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE FOR FIFTEEN YEARS. HE HAS BEEN CONNECTED WITH AMATEUR ATHLETICS IN THE UNITED STATES, AND INTERNATIONALLY, FOR MORE THAN FIFTY YEARS, AND WAS A MEMBER OF THE UNITED STATES OLYMPIC TEAM AT THE STOCKHOLM OLYMPIC GAMES IN 1912.
