  • Description

The United Nations Security Council debate on the Middle East has continued with more calls for Israel's withdrawal from occupied territory. The Guinean Foreign Minister, Fily Cissoko, said Israel should withdraw to the positions occupied before 1967, and went on to say that his country gave unqualified support to the cause of the Palestinian people.

The Iranian delegate, Fereydoun Hoveyda also took the view that Israel should withdraw in accordance with the UN resolution of 1967.

The President of the Security Council, Mr. Yakov Malik of the Soviet Union, spoke on behalf of his country. He said that the Soviet Union opposed medication efforts by individual states which bypassed the UN.

The Israel ambassador, Yosef Tekoah, exercised his right of reply, and urged that the Arabs should immediately negotiate with Israel.
