  • Description

THE SOVIET PRIME MINISTER, MR KHRUSHCHEV TOLD A FACTORY MEETING TODAY (WEDNESDAY) IN BELGRADE THAT THERE WERE PEOPLE WHO SAID THE WORKING CLASS WAS NOT THE MAIN FORCE IN THE WORLD ANY MORE. IN WHAT OBSERVERS CONSIDERED A REFERENCE TO SINO-SOVIET DIFFERENCES MR KHRUSHCHEV SAID THESE PEOPLE BELIEVED THAT NATIONS WHO FOUGHT FOR THEIR LIBERATION WERE NOW THE DRIVING FORCE.

MR KHRUSHCHEV DECLARED THAT EVEN IF IT WAS IN THE MINORITY THE WORKING CLASS MUST HAVE A LEADING ROLE BECAUSE OF ITS PROGRESSIVE IDEAS. "ONLY SOCIALISM AND COMMUNISM CAN SATISFY THE STRIVING OF THE PEOPLES" HE SAID.

THE SOVIET LEADER SPOKE FOR 80 MINUTES TO AN AUDIENCE OF SEVERAL THOUSAND WORKERS AT A MOTOR PLANT ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF BELGRADE. HE TOLD THEM HE WAS GLAD TO SEE GREAT PROGRESS IN YUGOSLAVIA SINCE HIS LAST VISIT (1956).

THE CROWD LAUGHED WHEN, SPEAKING OF RELATIONS BETWEEN YUGOSLAVIA AND THE SOVIET UNION, MR KHRUSHCHEV ADDED: "ONLY CROWS FLY STRAIGHT. RELATIONS BETWEEN OUR COUNTRIES HAD A ZIG-ZAG COURSE BUT WE HAVE COMMON INTERESTS BUILDING SOCIALISM AND COMMUNISM, AND A COMMON ENEMY, IMPERIALISM."
MR KHRUSHCHEV IS IN YUGOSLAVIA - OFFICIALLY HOLIDAYING - FOR A FORTNIGHT. BUT HE WILL MAKE A TOUR OF THE COUNTRY DURING HIS STAY AND IS EXPECTED TO HAVE MAJOR POLICY TALKS WITH PRESIDENT TITO.

FILM SHOWS MR KHRUSHCHEV AT THE BELGRADE MOTOR WORKS WHERE HE SPOKE WITH EMPLOYEES AND LATER AT A BANQUET ATTENDED BY PRESIDENT TITO.
