    A NEW PRIVATE GHANAIAN MINING CONCERN, THE INDIGENOUS DIAMOND MINING COMPANY, WAS INAUGURATED AT A CEREMONY IN ACCRA THIS WEEK.

    THE INAUGURAL CEREMONY WAS PERFORMED BY MR. T. DADE ON BEHALF OF THE COMMISSIONER FOR LANDS AND MINERAL RESOURCES, MR. J. PHILIPS. MR. DADE, SENIOR ASSISTANT SECRETARY AT THE MINISTRY, READ A SPEECH PREPARED BY MR. PHILIPS. HE CALLED ON GHANA'S DIAMOND WINNERS TO GROUP TOGETHER IN CO-OPERATIVES AND COMPANIES AND USE SIMPLE MOBILE MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT FOR GREATER EFFICIENCY.

    HE SAID IT WAS ESTIMATED THAT DIGGERS LOST AS MUCH AS 60 PER CENT OF RECOVERABLE DIAMONDS BECAUSE THEY USED PRIMITIVE AND WASTEFUL METHODS. MR. PHILIP'S PROMISED THAT THE MINISTRY WOULD HELP EFFICIENT CONCERNS AND GIVE TECHNICAL ADVICE TO DIGGERS.

    MR. DADE PRESENTED THE CERTIFICATE OF INCORPORATION OF THE NEW COMPANY TO THE CHAIRMAN OF ITS BOARD OF DIRECTORS, MR. J. ABBAN. THE MANAGING DIRECTOR OF THE COMPANY, MR. THOMAS KANBI, SAID THAT THE DIAMOND INDUSTRY IN GHANA, SPEARHEADED BY THE INDIGENOUS DIAMOND MINING COMPANY, Would TRY TO BEAT THE COCOA INDUSTRY AS GHANA'S BIGGEST FOREIGN EXCHANGE EARNER.
