Background: His Royal Highness Sheikh Ahmad Ben ali al Thani, ruler of Qatar, and his Prime Minister Sheikh Ben Hamad al Thany on Thursday granted rare interviews to a group of West German journalists, in Doha, capital of Qatar.

The journalists, representing some of the most influential newspapers and magazines in Western Germany, were on the second part of a four-day visit to the Arabian Gulf Emirates arranged by the Shell Oil Company.

Shell Qatar began commercial production of oil in the Emirate in 1966, and the other leading producer is the Qatar Petroleum Company, whose production is lightly greater, Qatar's revenue from oil exports amounts to more than GBP40 million (96 million US dollars). Principal consumers of Qatar's oil are Britain, Italy, Australia, France and Thailand.
