Crowds gathered outside the hospital gates after Queen Farah, aged 22, had left the palace for the hospital with the Shah. They pressed around Dr. Jai Inshah Saleh, Minister of Health, and surgeon in charge of arrangements for the birth, when he arrived. The crowd went wild with excitement when the birth was announced.
Streets had to be cleared with fire hoses; and with difficulty the crowds were brought under control. And for the Queen there were flowers ... and more flowers. The hospital is to be renamed "Queen Farah's Hospital", it was formerly the Mother's Protection Society Hospital.
The Shah-Persia's "King of Kings" - is age 41. Two former marriages were dissolved. His first wife, Princess Fawzia of Egypt, produced one daughter; and his second wife, Queen Soraya, was childless. The new royal baby is named after the Shah's father founder of the Pahlevi dynasty.
