ATHERTON: "The first of what will be a number of meetings between the Israeli team and the American team, and I think it is perhaps important to say at this point that, clearly, these are going to be continuing, and on-going discussions. We are not going to be able to give you a report on every meeting that we have. We will be meeting again this afternoon. So, let me only say at this point that these have been very serious talks on serious subjects, and we will be carrying them on this afternoon, and on for several more days. And I think I would want to leave it at that for the moment, unless my...... ....colleague, Mr. Ben-Elisar, has anything that he would like to add."
BEN-ELISAR: "I do agree with all you said, Wally. That it was a good meeting, the meeting (indistinct)."
ATHERTON: "Thanks. Thank you very much."

Background: Special United States envoy, Mr. Alfred Atherton, has been meeting with Israeli officials in Jerusalem to discuss ways of reviving the stalled peace talks between Israel and Egypt.
SYNOPSIS: One of the prickliest issues at the talks is Egypt's proposal -- which Israel has turned down -- of linkage between an agreement and settling the Palestinian problem in the Gaza Strip and occupied West Bank of the Jordan. Dr. Eliahu Ben-Flisar, director general of Israeli Prime Minister Menachem begin's bureau, led the Israeli team. Later, Mr. Atherton described their talks.
