  • Description

With mast of the world short of fuel because of the Arab oil embargo, the average Israeli is also facing his share of driving problems.

From Sunday (December 16), all Israeli drivers must keep their cars off the road at least one day a week.

To enforce the new regulations the government has issued windscreen stickers numbered for each day of the week. Drivers may choose which day they do without their cars but if they are caught driving on that day they face a stiff fine. They can also lose their car for the rest of the day.

However, up to the Friday deadline, only a third of the cars in the main cities were displaying their stickers and the Ministry of Transport was warning that no leniency would be given.
