Background: PALMDALE, Calif., May 9 -- Trans World Airlines has taken delivery of its first Lockheed L-1011 TriStar. Lockheed Board Chairman Dan Haughton handed over keys of the new jetliner to TWA's director of acceptance, Edwin Zak, and director of flight operations, Gordon Granger.
TWA will receive another five TriStars this year of the total forty-four ordered in March of 1968.
With TWA crews aboard, TriStar Number 1013 departed Wednesday for airline headquarters in Kansas City. It will enter passenger service for TWA this summer.
TWA's international service-- now extended around the world-- was launched with an earlier famous Lockheed airliner, the triple-tailed Constellation-- "Connie" to air travellers for more than two decades.
