    Ethiopia's Emperor Haile Selassie opened a hospital at the All African Leprosy and Rehabilitation Training Centre (ALERT), on Wednesday (10TH MARCH). The new hospital is situated just outside Addis Ababa.

    ALERT was founded in 1965, with the Emperor as patron, by organisations and religious missions in the United States, Britain, Switzerland, Ethiopia, Norway, Sweden and the World Council of Churches. It aims to provide training for physicians and senior leprosy and rehabilitation workers in Africa.

    SYNOPSIS: In Addis Ababa, Ethiopian school children waited outside a new hospital on Wednesday for the official opening ceremony. The hospital is situated at the All African Leprosy and Rehabilitation Training Centre.

    Among the waiting crowd were diplomats and Government officials. The hospital cost more than two million Ethiopian dollars and will cater for an increasing number of doctors and trainees from various countries.

    Ethiopia's Emperor, Haile Selassie, arrived to preside over the opening ceremony and was presented with a bouquet by Doctor Ross, a resident physician at the hospital. The Emperor has been patron of the organisation since its foundation in 1965.

    The new hospital aims to provide training for physicians and senior leprosy rehabilitation workers in Africa. The United States, Britain, Switzerland, Ethiopia, Norway, Sweden and the World Council for Churches all provided help for the organisation.
