SYNOPSIS: The executive council of OCAMM, the African, Malagasy and Mauritian Common Organisation, held a meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture in Abidjan on Monday. The opening address was given by the Ivory Coast Minister of Technical Information, Ange Barry-Battesti. The subject of the meeting and Mr. Barry-Battesti speech was africanisation -- particularly as it applies to employment at the management level of business.

Delegates from the Ivory Coast, Dahomey, Upper Volta, Niger, Senegal, and Togo took part in the speeches and discussions. Observers from several organisations of the United Nations were also present.

Mr. Barry-Battisti told the delegates that africanisation of management positions is unavoidable and must be achieved, in spite of the possible risks involved. Many of the delegates see africanisation of their industries as a final step in their quest for total independence -- economic as well as political.

Other delegates addressing the meeting included Jean-Marcel Clamoungou, speaking for President Tombalbaye of Chad, the current chairman of OCAMM.
