  • Description

The Arab World celebrated Mothers' Day on Wednesday (21 March). Three days earlier, on Sunday (18 March), the Jordanian Home and Garden Club held a special exhibition of hand-made cloth, embr??? and other exquisitely-worked materials and articles of clothing.

The Club's Chairman is Princess Muna, King Hussein's ex-wife. She presided over the exhibition, which was held in Amman's Intercontinental Hotel.

The Club was established in Jerusalem in 1958 as a meeting place for the wives of United States' citizens living there. Now, it is open to all and boasts a membership of 150.

Hundreds of pieces of hand-worked materials were on display -- the result of hours of labour from an age group ranging from seven to 80. They included sheets and pillowcases for Damascus, shirts from Nazareth, crochet work almost 100 years old, a 50-year-old baptism dress, a complete trousseau and several hundred other items.
