    SEVEN BRITISH SHIPS OF THE INSHORE FLOTILLA AND ONE MINE SWEEPER OF THE ROYAL MALAYAN NAVY MADE A GOODWILL VISIT TO SAIGON ON AUGUST 16.

    THE SHIPS WERE GREETED WITH A 21-GUN SALUTE FROM THE VIETNAMESE NAVY AT THE BACH DANG BATTERY.

    THE BRITISH SHIPS ARE UNDER THE COMMAND OF CAPT. J. M. TOWNLEY AND IS COMPOSED OF A FRIGATE, FIVE MINE SWEEPERS AND ONE OIL TANKER. THE MALAYAN MINE SWEEPER IS K. D. MAHAMIRU.

    LT. COMMANDER TRAN VAN PHAN, REPRESENTING THE COMMANDER OF THE VIETNAMESE NAVY GREETED CAPT. TOWNLEY ON HMS WOODBRIDGE.

    CAPT. TOWNLEY IS TO CALL ON BRITISH AMBASSADOR H. A. F. HOHLER, AUSTRALIAN AMBASSADOR BRIAN C. HILL, AND THE CHIEF OF THE GENERAL STAFF OF VIETNAMESE ARMED FORCES GEN. LE VAN TY, AMONG OTHERS.

    THE SHIPS HAVE RECENTLY BEEN ENGAGED IN ANTI-PIRACY OPERATIONS IN NORTH BORNEO WATERS. THE BRITISH FLOTILLA VISITED SAIGON LAST IN JULY 1960.
