  • Description

The administrative council of the Postal Training Centre in Abidjan, which will train postal workers from seven French-speaking West African countries, held its first meeting on Monday (September 21st).

The Centre will train technicians from the Ivory Coast, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Togo and Upper Volta.

    M. Souleymane Cissoko, Minister of Post and Telecommunications in the Ivory Coast, welcomed the delegates. He expressed great satisfaction at what he termed the culmination of long and patient efforts by the Universal Postal Union and all the participating countries following the decisions taken at the union's congress in Vienna in 1964. It was an aspect of international technical co-operation which would be to the profit of the young independent states.

The project is mainly financed by the United Nations Development Programme. Its representative in Abidjan, Mr. Gorge Makovsky, attended Monday's meeting.

The Centre is due to be opened in mid-October.
