Background: The fourth international rock climbing competition has been taking place in the Black Sea resort of Yalta. Competitors from ten different countries have provided spectators with a breath-taking spectacle. The Soviet teams took first and second places. Michael Turkevitch and Sergei Bershov, the Soviet team who finished second in this competition, were the pair who climbed Mount Everest last April. The Japanese climbers, Jamasaki Jonish and Seidin Hochi performed a magnificent leap during their ascent, to the delight of the spectators. They finished the competition in ninth place. The Soviet team which won the pairs event, consisted of Valeri Balezin and Alexander Dyomin. Balezin was also favourite to take the individual event -- and he did so with ease. The sport of rock climbing is growing in popularity and this international event was attended by hundreds of spectators.
