Background: Romanian leaders visited Syria on Thursday (19 February) for talks with Palestine Liberation Organisation officials on the PLO stand in the Middle East.
The romanian delegation was led by the President of the country's grand Assembly, and member of the Central Committee of the Romanian Communist Party, Mr. Nicolae Giosan.
After arriving in Damascus, Mr. Giosan, held talks with the Speaker of the Syrian People's Assembly (Parliament) Mr. Mohammad Ali Halabi.
Mr. Giosan also spoke with the Syrian Prime Minister, Mr. Mahoud Al-Ayoubi, on the Palestine cause in the Middle East.
The Romanian delegation visited the Euphrates dam, met Romanian experts, and the liberated Quinetra. Mr. Giosan is reported to have been surprised by the "outrageous deeds" of the Israelis.
The Romanians also spoke with the Speaker of the Palestinian Assembly, Mr. Khaled Fashoum, about the legitimate rights of the Palestinian People to self-determination and the establishment of a Palestinian state in their homeland.
SYNOPSIS: Syrian and Palestinian Liberation Organisation officials turned out in force to welcome a delegation from Romania, which arrived in Damascus on Thursday. The Romanians, led by Mr. Nicolae Giosan, President of the Romanian Grand Assembly and member of the Central Committee of the Romanian Communist Party, were invited by the Syrian People's Assembly for talks on the Middle East situation. The Romanians were officially met by the official spokesman for the PLO, Mr. Mohusen Abu Maizar.
Mr. Giosan and his entourage went to the Syrian Council of Ministers for talks with members of the People's Assembly and Prime Minister Mahmoud Al-Ayoubi, on the Palestinian cause in the Middle East. The Romanians were taken to see the Euphrates dam and met Syrian experts on Romania.
