    THE ANNUAL MOULOUD CEREMONY MARKING THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF THE PROPHET MOHAMMED, WAS HELD THROUGHOUT ALGERIA, AUGUST 13. THE FESTIVAL WAS EAGERLY AWAITED AS IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THE CEREMONY HAD BEEN HELD INDEPENDENCE ALGERIA.

    WOMEN AND CHILDREN DRESSED IN THEIR BEST CLOTHES VISITED THE CEMETERY OF EL KHETTAR AND OTHER GRAVEYARDS IN THE CITY. PRAYERS WERE OFFERED AT THE TOMBS, IN MANY CASES OF MEMBERS OF FAMILIES WHO DIED IN THELDONG STRUGGLE FOR PEACE IN ALGERIA.

    WHILE PREPARATIONS WHERE BEING MADE FOR THE THREE DAY CEREMONY, GUERILLA COMMANDERS OF THE COUNTRY'S SIX MILITARY DISTRICTS MET WITH BEN BELLA'S RULING POLITICAL BUREAU, AUGUST 12, TO DISCUSS ENFORCEMENT OF MEASURES TO BRING THE ARMY UNDER CIVILIAN CONTROL. AS THEY MET, THE MOSLEMS WERE BUSY FESTOONING THE STREETS WITH DECORATIONS.
