SCHECKTER: "I think this is a divided occasion for me because it's something I've been working very, very hard for. And a lot people around me for many years. In fact, seven years in formula one. And so it's really the achievement of my life. And I am very thankful to all the people involved in motor racing, for providing me with the opportunity to be able to achieve this achievement. Not only the teams I've worked with but the organisers. But on the other hand I don't know how many of you know, I've been elected the President of the G.P.D.A. And through this week we have been trying to stop the Brazilian Grand Prix. We feel this is far below the safety standards of the drivers. I, this morning on behalf of the drivers was refused to have a hearing of the executive committee. We feel that it is the most dangerous circuit. And we feel that we have a very valid point. We have been trying since the Grand Prix was changed from Rio to Interlagos to make a compromise, with no avail."
