THE FIRST LOAD, ABOARD A BRITANNIA CHARTERED FROM A BRITISH AIRLINE, LEFT DAR ES SALAAM FOR LUSAKA, THE ZAMBIA CAPITAL, YESTERDAY (SATURDAY). THE CIVIL AIRCRAFT TAKE OVER FROM BRITISH AIR FORCE TRANSPORTS, WHOSE PRESENCE IN TANZANIA DREW PROTESTS FORM PRESIDENT NYERERE. EARLIER, TANZANIA HAD BROKEN OFF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH BRITAIN FOR HER FAILURE TO CRUSH THE REBELLION IN RHODESIA.

    AIRPORT STAFF AT DAR ES SALAAM WORKED THROUGH THE NIGHT TO PREPARE THE AIRCRAFT FOR THEIR NEW ROLE, SEATS WERE REMOVED AND FORK-LIFT TRUCKS LOADED THE OILDRUMS. RHODESIA'S MR. IAN SMITH OFFERED YESTERDAY (SATURDAY) TO ALLOW AGAIN OIL SUPPLIES TO PASS THROUGH HIS COUNTRY TO ZAMBIA, BUT PRESIDENT KAUNDA REJECTED THE OFFER AS AN EMPTY GESTURE. THE AIRLIFT WILL SOON BE BRINGING, 1,200 DRUMS OF OIL INTO ZAMBIA EVERY DAY.
