    WEIGHING 35 TONS, THE TANK IS FITTED WITH A NEW LOW-CONSUMPTION ENGINE GIVING A MAXIMUM SPEED OF 65 KILOMETRES AN HOUR (40 MPH) AND A RANGE OF 500 KILOMETRES (310 MILES) WITHOUT REFUELLING.IT CAN CLIMB OBSTACLES UP TO 90 CM (3 FEET) HIGH, AND NEGOTIATE 70-DEGREE SLOPES.

    A DESCENDANT OF A VEHICLE ORIGINALLY INTRODUCED IN THE FIRST WORLD WAR, THE AMX 30 WOULD HAVE SPECIAL VALUE IN THE EVENT OF NUCLEAR WAR.ITS FOUR-MAN CREW CAN SEAL THEMSELVES OFF COMPLETELY, USING RESERVES OF COMPRESSED AND PURIFIED AIR AS A DEFENCE AGAINST RADIO-ACTIVE FALLOUT, CHEMICAL AND BACTERIOLOGICAL WARFARE.THE SAME SEALING EQUIPMENT ENABLES THE TANK TO CROSS WATER TWO METRES (6 FEET DEEP, OR, WITH A SCHNORKEL DEVICE ATTACHED, UNDER FOUR METRES (13 FEET) OF WATER.

    A LONG-BARRELED 105 MM GUN IS FITTED ON A MOUNTING GIVING VERY FLEXIBLE MOVEMENT AND HIGH PRECISION UP TO 2500 METRES (1.5 MILES).A SUPPLY OF 60 SHELLS IS CARRIED, AND, AS A FINAL TOUCH, INFRA-RED EQUIPMENT IS FITTED FOR FIGHTING AT NIGHT.
