  • Description

YVES ST LAURENT, THE FRENCH FASHION DESIGNER, TODAY (MONDAY) INAUGURATED HIS LONG-AWAITED LEFT-BANK BOUTIQUE - TO BE FOLLOWED SHORTLY BY A CHAIN OF READY-TO-WEAR SHOPS IN UNIVERSITY TOWNS THROUGHOUT FRANCE.

ST LAURENT, WHO IS 30, WILL DESIGN MASS-PRODUCED MERCHANDISE LICENSED FOR SALE IN SPECIALISED SHOPS AUTHORISED TO CARRY HIS NAME. A SECOND ST LAURENT BOUTIQUE IS SCHEDULED TO OPEN IN MARSEILLES NEXT MONTH.

THE DECOR OF THE LEFT-BANK BOUTIQUE, ON THE RUE DE TOURNAN NEAR THE FRENCH SENATE, IS AS YOUNG AND OFFBEAT AS THE CLOTHES. MANY OF THE GARMENTS ARE EXACT COPIES OF MODELS SHOWN IN THE HAUTE COURTURE COLLECTION.

THE CLOTHES ARE MADE BY A SPECIALISED FIRM WHICH ALSO MANUFACTURES READY-TO-WEAR COLLECTIONS FOR A GROUP OF OTHER LEADING PARIS COUTURIERS.

MANY OF THE POP-ART MODELS, WHICH WERE CONSIDERED INAPPROPRIATE AND TOO HIGHLY PRICED IN ST LAURENT'S LAST COUTURE COLLECTION, TURN UP IN THE BOUTIQUE.

ST LAURENT PAID PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO MINISKIRTS - FEATURED IN NEON-BRIGHT COLOURED SUEDES.
