  • Description

Spurred on by the loudly cheering Babushka Brigade, Pittsburgh recovered from a slump to beat San Francisco at Three Rivers baseball stadium on Tuesday (19 August).

The Brigade, with their thousands of waving scarves, were founded by Pirate broadcaster, Bob prince, and were just the psychological boost Pittsburgh needed.

Pittsburgh's Al Oliver found form again, and regained favour with manager Danny Murtar with a second innings run scoring double.

He also had two other hits, including a single home run in the seventh.

As Philadelphia lost to Atlanta on the same day, the Pirates are now back in first place on the National League ladder.

An part from the team, happiest of all with the win were the fans...the Babushka Brigade.
