  • Description

Four surviving members of the originally six-strong ill-fated British climbing team, were filmed in Katmandu, Nepal June 11 by VISNEWS - the day after their return from an unsuccessful assault on Ama Dablam, in the Sola Khumber mountain.

Led by Emlyn Jones, the climbers left Katmandu, March 29 for "Ama Dablam" for the second British attempt to scale the 22,494 ft unconquered mountain. On May 21, news came of the death of two members, M.J. Harris and G.J. Fraser, last seen making a final assault on the summit. It is not known whether or not they made the peak. The tragedy was even more marked by the fact that the two climbers had already surmounted the biggest difficulties in the climb. Eight days later the rest of the team abandoned the attempt to climb the mountain, believed by experts to be unconquerable.

At Katmandu, the remaining climbers - their leader, the only woman, Mrs. Moria, (mother-in-law of Everest climber, Dr. Charles Evans): E.A. Wrangham and Dr. Fredric Jackson, were said to be extremely exhausted after the ordeal.
