    THE RACE COVERED TEN LAPS OF A TEN-MILE (16 KILOMETRE) CIRCUIT AROUND BEACONSFIELD.

    60 COMPETITORS TOOK PART IN THE GRAND PRIX.

    AN EARLY LEADER WAS REGIS OVION OF FRANCE, BUT HE FADED AS A 15-STRONG GROUP OF CYCLISTS BROKE AWAY AFTER 80 MILES (129 KILOMETRES) AND STAYED AHEAD FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE RACE.

    BELGIUM'S DEHAES SPURTED INTO THE LEAD FIVE MILES (8 KILOMETRES) FROM THE FINISH AND HELD OFF THE PURSUING GROUP.

    THE RUNNERS-UP WERE SO CLOSELY BUNCHED TOGETHER THAT THEY ALL RECORDED THE SAME TIME: FOUR HOURS 14 MINUTES 17 SECONDS. SECOND WAS JENBROERS OF HOLLAND, WHILE GUY MAINGON OF FRANCE FINISHED THIRD AND DOUG DAILEY OF ENGLAND WAS FOURTH.

    THE WINNER RECEIVED PRIZE-MONEY TOTALLING 50 POUNDS STERLING.

    THE HARP INTERNATIONAL GRAND PRIX, HELD SINCE 1966, IS CONSIDERED ONE OF THE LEADING ROAD CYCLING COMPETITIONS IN BRITAIN.

    60 COMPETITORS FROM BRITAIN AND A NUMBER OF EUROPEAN COUNTRIES TOOK PART IN THE GRAND PRIX --- HELD OVER TEN LAPS OF A TEN-MILE (16 KILOMETRE) CIRCUIT AROUND BEACONSFIELD.

    No.6, REGIS OVION OF FRANCE, WAS AN EARLY LEADER.

    CROWDS ALONG THE ROUTE WATCHED SOME OF EUROPE'S TOP CYCLISTS IN THE GRAND PRIX - CONSIDERED ONE OF THE LEADING RACES IN BRITAIN. IT'S BEEN HELD EVERY YEAR SINCE 1956.

    AFTER 80 MILES (129 KILOMETRES) A 15-STRONG GROUP BROKE AWAY AND SAYED AHEAD FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE RACE.

    THE FINAL LAP....AND IN FRONT WAS BELGIUM'S HUGO DEHAES, WHO HAD TAKEN THE LEAD FIVE MILES (EIGHT KILOMETRES) FROM THE FINISH. DEHAES, NUMBER 3, HELD OFF THE PURSUING GROUP TO CROSS THE LINE IN FIRST POSITION, 12 SECONDS ??? OF BEN JENBROERS OF HOLLAND AND GUY MAINGON OF FRANCE.

    THE WINNERS TIME....FOUR HOURS 14 MINUTES FIVE SECONDS.
