    The inaugural service of bristol Britannia Turbo-Propeller airliner on England-India-Japan route touched Palam Airport of Delhi, at 9.35 P.M., about 45 minutes behind schedule, on 21st July 1957 and took off after 40 minutes for onward flight to Tokyo including stops at one more Indian airport, Dumdum of Calcutta, Rangoon, Bangkok and Hongkong. Several enthusiasts waited at the airport to see this new plane of British Overseas Airways Corporation, replacing the Constellation and Argonaut aircraft which the corporation now uses on its first class and tourist flights through Delhi and Calcutta on the Far Eastern run.
