As President of the General Assembly, I have great pleasure in welcoming the delegations of Bhutan, Qatar and Bahrain. I am sure that they will make valuable contributions to the work of the organisation. May I extend to the governments and people of these new members, my sincere congratulations on their admission and my personal wishes for their happiness and prosperity."

    Background: At the United Nations on Tuesday (21 September), three states were admitted to membership in the United Nations. Indonesian foreign minister Adam Malik, who is President of the 26th. U.N. General Assembly, declared Qatar, Bahrain and Bhutan members of the United Nations.

    Earlier, Mr. Malik told the delegates in the General Assembly that the 26th session should be an assembly "working towards a universality of peace, one and indivisible, throughout the entire globe."
