  • Description

PRESIDENT MOBUTU OF CONGO-KINSHASA PLAYED HOST TO PRESIDENT MICOMBERO OF BURUNDI AT A CHRISTMAS DAY PARADE.

PRESIDENT MOBUTU SAID AT THE PARADE, WHICH WAS HELD AT BUKAVU, THE PRINCIPAL CITY OF KAVAMU PROVINCE, DID NOT CONFLICT WITH THE PEACEFUL IDEALS OF CHRISTMAS. THE ARMED FORCES WHICH THE PEOPLE SAW REPRESENTED CONGO KINSHASA'S POLICY AS A PEACEFUL NATION, FOR THEY WERE THE MEN WHO GUARDED THE PEACE. THEY DID THIS WITHIN THE COUNTRY -- AND THEY DISCOURAGED OUTSIDE AGGRESSORS FROM ATTEMPTING TO BREAK CONGO KINSHASA'S PEACE.

UNDERLINING HIS POINT HE SAID THAT CONGO KINSHASA WAS A NATION THAT WAS NOT ATTACKING ANYONE AND WAS CONCERNED TO GUARD THE PEACE.

AFTER THE PARADE BOTH PRESIDENTS RETURNED BY RIVER TO KINSHASA WHERE THEY GOT A BIG WELCOME -- INCLUDING GIFTS OF FLOWERS.
