Background: On the 8th of May A.N. Kosygin, Chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers, received Mr. John Lindsay, a prominent political figure, the Mayor of New York city, who is in the Soviet Union at the invitation of the Executive Committee of the Moscow Soviet.
During the talk which was carried out on a friendly atmosphere under discussion were issues of Soviet-American relations, among them the possibility of expansion of useful contacts between New York and Moscow. Together with other positive measures on the way of improving Soviet-American relations in accordance with the principles of peaceful co-existence, this would serve the further putting into practice the Principles of Relations between the USSR and the USA, which had been signed in May, 1972.
Taking part in the talks were V.F. Promislov, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Moscow Soviet, and A. Dubbs, Acting Charge d'Affaires of the United States in the USSR.
