  • Description

North Korea has accused the United Nations Command of mounting spy missions across North Korean territory. The accusations came on Tuesday (14 May) at a regular Armistice Commission meeting at Panumnjom border village.

Senior North Korean delegate, Major General Kim Pung-sop, accused the United States-led Command of overflying North Korea in high altitude SR-71 reconnaissance aircraft.

His Untied Nations counterpart, Major General William McLeond of the U.S. Army, categorically denied the syping charge. He also rejected a North Korean accusation that two U.N. helicopters had crossed the border on a spy mission on May 9 -- fleeing south when fired at by North Korean troops.

General McLeod said the helicopters were on a routine training mission south of the demilitarised zone. And he countered by accusing the North Koreans of bringing automatic weapons into the demilitarised zone in violation of the armistice agreement.
