    TRANSCRIPT:

JOHN DANCY: "Secretary of State Vance returned to Washington late this afternoon. He'll report to President Carter tomorrow morning on his talks with Prime Minister begin and President Sadat. The Administration is still insisting that neither Begin nor Sadat made any concessions to Vance, but there is nevertheless a lot of speculation that there must have been some assurances that the summit would produce results.

VANCE (SEQ 2): "The response and the enthusiasm of the response reflects, I believe, the deep conviction of both President Sadat and Prime Minister Begin that they deeply desire progress in the search for peace and we look forward to meeting them shortly, when they will be arriving here."

Israel's Prime Minister Menachem Begin, interrupted his holiday on Wednesday (9 August) to return to the old government headquarters in Quiriat, Tel Aviv, to begin planning Israel's negotiating policy for the Camp David Summit.

Mr. William Quant of the United States National Security Council met Mr Begin to report on the meeting between Mr. Vance and President Sadat in Alexandria on Tuesday (8 August). Each side was kept informed of how the negotiations for the summit were progressing.

"(I was informed....) about the talks the Secretary of State held in Alexandria with President of Egypt, Mr. Sadat. And tomorrow I shall inform the cabinet about this important information. We hope indeed that the conference will convene at Camp David on the 5th of September. The Israel delegation probably will leave on the 3rd of September."
