  • Description

TOP DESIGNERS FROM THE ROME AND MILAN HIGH FASHION HOUSES YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY) DISPLAYED THEIR LATEST READY-TO-WEAR CREATIONS FOR NEXT AUTUMN AND WINTER AT FLORENCE'S FAMOUS PALAZZO PITTI. STAR ATTRACTIONS WERE TITTI BRUGNOLI'S ELEGANT, SHALLOW-DOMED, OVAL-BRIMMED FELT "CARDINAL" HATS COPIED FROM THOSE RECENTLY BANNED BY POPE PAUL FOR THE PRINCES OF THE CHURCH.

TIZIANI AIMED AT ALL-ROUND SIMPLICITY OF LINE AND COLOUR - IN COATS, TROUSER SUITS AND ACCESSORIES. THE DESIGNER CONCENTRATED ON COLOUR COMBINATIONS OF BLACK, RED AND WHITE FOR DAYTIME, CHEERFUL AND YOUNG-LOOKING; BUT CHANGED TO DIAPHANOUS BLACK AND DIAMANTE FOR EVENING.

DANIELE CONCENTRATED ON AUTUMN PASTELS FOR ALL SUITS AND COATS - AGAIN SIMPLICITY WAS THE KEY-NOTE OF THE DESIGNS. A CHANGE OF STYLE, THOUGH, WITH A ONE-PIECE BOLERO SLIM-LINE EVENING DRESS WITH SPANGLED MIDRIFF.

IRENE GALITZINE CAN ALWAYS BE COUNTED ON TO PRODUCE THE EXOTIC - HER COLOURS WERE MAINLY DARK WITH STRONG TARTAR AND ARABIAN NIGHTS INFLUENCES FROM THE DRESSES TO THE HAIR-STYLES.

GREGORIANA COMPROMISED AND PUT PASTEL-COLOURED MAXI-COATS OVER SOFT-TONED MINI-DRESSES, ALL DESIGNED TO HARMONIZE WITH ONE ANOTHER INTER-CHANGEABLY.

BUT IT WAS ROME'S TITTI BRUGNOLI WHO STOLE THE SHOW WITH HIS RECURRING THEME OF "CARDINAL" OUTFITS IN VARIOUS COLOURS - TOPPED BY THE FAMOUS SHALLOW-DOMED, OVAL-BRIMMED FELT HATS THAT POPE HAUL ONLY LAST WEEK BANNED FROM USE BY THE PRINCES OF THE CHURCH.
