  • Description

Greece's drive to improve relations with Eastern Europe would not affect her long-standing links with The West, said Greek Foreign Minister Panayotis Pipinelis today (Saturday) at a press conference in Athens.

Mr Pipinelis' conference followed the recent visit to Greece of Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ivan Bazhev. He told newsmen that Greece's friendly relations with Bulgaria were quite compatible with her commitments as a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally.

Greece - like other West European Nations - had taken initiatives to improve relations with East European countries irrespective of their social and political regimes, he added.

Greece and Bulgaria had entered a new era for the improvement of their relations, Bulgaria having indicated via Mr Bazhev that she wished to create a favourable climate for friendly relations with Greece.
