    Background: A WORKSHOP FOR MILITARY VEHICLES IS BEING BUILT IN RANGSIT, NEAR BANGKOK, BY THE GOVERNMENT WITH AID FROM AUSTRALIA. IT IS EXPECTED TO COMMENCE PRODUCTION IN 1965.

    THE WORKSHOP IS BEING BUILT PRIMARILY AS A VEHICLE-REBUILD WORKSHOP AND WILL BE MANNED BY THE ARMY AND NAVAL TECHNICIANS WHO ARE CURRENTLY UNDERGOING TRAINING IN AUSTRALIA. MORE WILL BE GOING FOR SIMILAR TRAINING IN DUE COURSE.

    WHILE CONSTRUCTION WORKERS ARE HURRYING BUILDING THE WORKSHOP, NINE AUSTRALIAN ARMY TECHNICIANS ARE TRAINING MORE THAI TECHNICIANS IN A NAVAL DOCKYARD WORKSHOP IN BANGKOK. THEY ARE BEING ASSISTED BY THEIR TRAINED THAI COUNTERPARTS WHO HAVE JUST RETURNED FROM AUSTRALIA.

    THE 150,000 SQUARE-FOOT NEW WORKSHOP WILL SERVE THAI ARMED FORCES. THE JOINT AUSTRALIAN-THAI PROJECT IS UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE SOUTH-EAST ASIA TREATY ORGANISATION.
