Background: The Prime Minister of Britain, Mr Edward Heath, presided over an international gathering at the Wilton Park seminar centre in Sussex on Monday (21 June) which commemorated the 25th anniversary of the conference centre. Wilton Park has gained a reputation over the years as a place for world leaders to come to exchange views in comfort on matters of mutual interest. With Mr Heath to celebrate its 25th anniversary were Herr Helmut Schmidt, the West German Defence Minister and General Manuel Diex-Alegria, the Spanish Chief-of-Staff.

SYNOPSIS: In rural Sussex in the South of England, a peaceful centre for world leaders to relax and talk...Wilton Park. This year Wilton Park celebrates its 25th anniversary. It's one of the few places where Britain's Prime Minister, Mr Edward Heath, the man who is trying to steer Britain into Europe, has a chance to meet European leaders informally.

For 25 years Wilton Park has made it possible for the leaders of the world, especially Europe, to meet each other informally, and it now has a considerable reputation. Seminars are held regularly on matters of international interest. 133 such seminars have been held so far, and the title of this month's one is "25 years of change: in Great Britain and in international relations".
