  • Description

Ten years ago someday - name unknown - gave the Bronx Zoo, on the outskirts of New York, a baby alligator just eighteen inches long. On June 7, the alligator, now a ten-foot monster weighting 342 pounds, was prepared for shipment to the United Kingdom, and his new home in a circus menagerie.

Sullen eyed, as most alligators are, and with an uncounted number of very sharp teeth, the alligator defied initial attempts to urge it into a cage arranged strategically at the side of the pit.

After many efforts at coaxing with brooms, keepers flung themselves at the alligator and held it captive until its mouth could be safely taped. Then they tied it with strong rope and carried it into the cage.
