SYNOPSIS: The crippled "Hotel"-Class Soviet submarine, which broke down in a gale in the North Atlantic three weeks ago, was sighted by a reconnaissance aircraft of the Royal Dutch Navy on Wednesday. It was south of Greenland. The vessel, still apparently crippled, was surrounded by a small flotilla of Soviet surface ships. When it originally broke down, apparently after an accident in the engine room, a Soviet tug took it in tow after it had wallowed helplessly in a gale for four days. Offers of help from the United States Coast Guard had not been acknowledged. A Coast Guard cutter sent to the scene was not asked for assistance although the submarine was being dashed by fifty-foot waves in a bb-knol ???.

The 3,700-ton submarine, which has a crew of ninety, is one of about nine or ten Hotel-Class submarines in the Soviet Navy. Each is designed to carry three Serb ballistic missile with a range of six-hundred-and-fifty-nautical-miles. The missiles can be launched underwater.
