  • Description

Prince, Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, said today (Wednesday) that conservation of the environment has become a large and awkward spanner in a well-oiled materialist economic system. The Duke was speaking at the opening of three-day conference to consider the best way to implement proposals for saving Britain's countryside from environment mental desecration.

The conference, which is the culmination of seven years of study, is Britain's contribution to European Conservation year. By a twist of fate, the conference opened at a time when Britain is facing tow grave pollution threats: nation strike by municipal garbage and sewage workers; and an oil pollution threat to 100 miles of coastline following the grounding off the Isle of Wight of a fully-laden oil tanker.

Prince Philip pointed out that disagreement was inevitable between various groups associated with the pollution problem. But, he emphasised, the group must go on meeting to hammer out answers vital to life in Great Britain.
