Tornadoes slammed into Illinois and Indiana in America's Midwest Monday night (22 April). The storm left at least forty-four injured and a rubble-strewn path of wrecked homes in its wake.
Near Indianapolis...state capital of Indiana...two hundred homes were damaged or destroyed.Another syndrome of twisters, lighting and hail struck the southwest part of the nation.A tornado bowled over a dozen 20-foot grain storage tanks north of Dallas, Texas...and all the grain was lost.
By far...the cruellest punishment was dealt to Indiana and Illinois...where only last week more than fifty persons were hurt in a storm center that struct Kankakee, Illinois.
Several houses were pushed over; others had there roofs torn off. There were no deaths reported...although a man swept up and carried 350 yards near Illiopolis, Illinois, was in critical condition.
