  • Description

One of four Canadian ships tied up in Chicago by the longshoremen's strike has left for home empty.

When dock workers refused to cross picket lines of the Seafarers International Union, the Colonel Robert McCormick sailed out of the Calumet River without the grain cargo it had come for.

Three other ships - The Colgodoc, Mondoc and John Ericsson - are marking time on the Chicago River.

In Milwaukee, longshoremen are refusing to unload two other Canadian ships.

The SIU is protesting against the Canadian government's putting maritime unions under a panel of trustees.
