Background: More than 1,500 people from all walks of life in Peking attended a rally on May 9th to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the liberation of the German and Czechoslovak peoples.
Marshal Ho Lung, member of the political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council was present at the rally.
The rally was addressed by Kuo Mo-jo, Vice-Chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee. He described the Victory of the War against Fascism as a great epic written by the people of all countries in the common struggle. The great Soviet people and the valiant Army, under the leadership of the Leninist Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union headed by Stalin, brought forth the spirit of revolutionary heroism and scored immortal merits in defeating German-Italian-Japanese Fascism.
He declared that the Chinese people resolutely support the struggle of the German Democratic Republic against the revival of German militarism by US imperialism. The Chinese people, he said, firmly support the struggle of the Vietnamese people to defend the North, liberate the South and reunify the Fatherland. Other speakers are:
Soviet Ambassador to China, Sergei Georgievich Lapin; Ambassador of the German Democratic Republic to China, Gunter Kohnt; and Czhechoslovak Ambassador to China, Vaclav Kristek.
