SOME 10,000 PEOPLE, MOSTLY NEGROES, CROWDED INTO NEW YORK'S HARLEM ARMOURY YESTERDAY, (SUNDAY) ATTENDING A RALLY OF THE NEGRO NATIONALIST MOVEMENT, THE BLACK MUSLIMS.

SOME 70 POLICE PATROLLED THE ARMOURY BUILDING AND ALL NEGROES ENTERING THE HALL WERE SEARCHED FOR CONCEALED WEAPONS. THE MUSLIMS HAD THEIR OWN GUARD TOO. ONE YOUTH, WHO WAS SUSPECTED OF SUPPORTING MALCOLM X - A NEGRO NATIONALIST LEADER WHO RECENTLY SPLIT WITH THE MUSLIMS, WAS BEATEN UP WHEN HE TRIED TO ENTER THE BUILDING.

ELIJAH MUHAMMAD, HEAD OF THE MOVEMENT, ADDRESSED THE MEETING. HE TOLD THE NOISY AUDIENCE THAT THE NEGRO WOULD RECEIVE NOTHING FROM THE CIVIL RIGHTS BILL, NOW NEARING PASSAGE IN CONGRESS.

"YOU'VE GOT TO FIGHT FOR THE THINGS YOU NEED, "HE SAID.

WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION CASSIUS CLAY, WHO NOW CALLS HIMSELF MOHAMMED ALI, ALSO ADDRESSED THE MEETING, TELLING OF HIS RECENT TRIP THROUGH AFRICA WHICH HE CUT SHORT TO ATTEND THE RALLY.
